I think about it. I think that I have to change my attitude about writing. Time to take it seriously. What do I mean?

3.28.04. The web is a dead end. Or the black hole. I can put ten times more labor into it -- and nothing will come back. The image of sun I had when I was a teenager; only giving away the energy, not getting anything back... Image of god? Something hard to understand when you are mortal. Why to give, when you don't even see the results? And the night sjy is full of stars, endless spots of light, so many ready to give without any interest of getting anything in return. You MUST have:

URL
Obtain a domain name such as www.yourname.com or www.yourtitle.com. It should be easy to remember and, more importantly, consistent with you and your work. Also, when you get the website up and running, use the email address yourname@yourname.com. Anything else doesn’t look professional. And for the love of God, don’t use an AOL or Yahoo account.

Pictures
Let’s face it: people judge books by their covers. In fact, according to Amazon.com, customers are four times as likely to purchase books if they can see the cover art. So be sure to include images all over your site. And, include a few high resolution, downloadable pictures of YOU, as well. Book buyers love putting the author’s face with the book. And this will make it easy for other people to cut and paste those pictures on their sites and promote you, your work and your website.

Payment Options
Make sure your books are available for purchase on Amazon.com. Even though the friendly people at Amazon take a whopping 55% of every book you sell, there IS a credibility issue there. Customers like the idea that your book is available on Amazon. Also, consider having Paypal or a shopping cart as additional payment options. It may seem repetitive, but it does make your books easier to buy.

Related Writings
Most authors write articles, special reports and other publications related to their area of expertise. On your site, make these publications FREE to the public for reading and downloading. Be sure to include a quick byline and reference to your books at the end of each publication. Now, many Internet experts will disagree with this idea. They say "never give anything away for free." I say: give value first, show people your work is incredible and turn them into fans. Then you will keep them around forever.

Community Builders
You need to create community via your website. This is the number one way to accumulate fans. Publish a blog, ezine, a newsletter, message board or link exchange on your site. And make sure people see a link to your "community builder" on every page.

Media Room
This page will include most of your downloadable pictures, biographical information, press releases, media appearances, personal FAQ’s and possible interview questions. The purpose of this page is to make it easy for people from the media to interview you, promote you and write articles or reviews about your work.

Readers like the idea of emailing, calling or contacting the author personally. Even if you can’t respond to every single inquiry, it’s still important to be accessible. Too many authors are stereotyped as being unapproachable. So, make this contact information visible in the same spot on every single page.

Samples
Excerpts from your books and sample chapters are perfect ways to share your writing with people who come to your site. This is an especially effective way to sell books, because after reading a snippet of your work, people will want more. I suggest offering the first chapter or two of your book(s) as a downloadable PDF. And don’t forget to include a short note with a link to the sale page at the end of the sample!

Most authors are also speakers, workshop leaders or seminar hosts. This occurs for several reasons. First of all, books don’t pay the bills (unless you’re JK Rowling). Secondly, speaking validates the author’s expertise and promotes his or her books. Thirdly, speaking has the potential to pay significantly more money that writing; especially if your work is well known. So, spend some time organizing your writings into modular speaking programs that offer additional value beyond a book. Then position those speaking services on your site on a page called "Speaking Engagements" or "Public Appearances."

2005: Chekhov's Last Day [ I was making PS pages at the same time I was creating "Intro" pages... As if I knew that I am not about to finish anything.

I thought that by recording it, the thought process, the style to be born by itself.
First, my interests. Too much is written by me about things that are not important. Changing yourself is the step to changing your writing. Clean it, your mind! My thought is too broad and feelins are not sharp -- here is the abstract sentences as a result.
... I make PS pages right away because I want to keep the end in sight. No, I do not believe in endings ("It's immoral to tell a story which has a specific beginning and conclusion." Fellini). Knowing it, knowing that I won't have any finale, I mark the space of conclusions.
The web and internet came into existence at the end of my living to save myself from worries about the future, to free my present. The webpage is the shortest way to past; every time I hit "save" -- it becomes past, it's "published." The guint brains of humanity (I do not know where physically the memory is -- Yahoo, Tripod, Freeservers) remember what I said. This mind remembers everything, masterpieces and total nonsense -- who is to decide what is what? The 3rd Age is very democratic: Relax, baby, I will remember it all...
Memory was the mother of all muses; maybe the mother is too youg to have grownup daughters. This revolution in memory is not fully understood. Too soon. The memory chips evolving hourly; the technology -- our mutual desire -- ask for more and more power. I can only wonder -- why? Why do we have to remember everything? What about the blessing of forgetting?
This is the core of my last book -- TECH (Theology of Technology). The world that remember everything is the world without mercy, without forgiveness?
According to Fedorov, we finally departure from the animal kingdom, only now we become "humans" -- we remember...
How we do it? We record. Yes, yes, this is the first step to resurrection...
* 9.8.05: My "Russian" 2005 Summer is over. "Russian" -- because I wrote about the Russian past (in Russian)... "Wrote" is not the word to use, nothing I finish... It doesn't mean that I will never die. The Web suits me, it looks like something without beginning and end, "blog-like"... endless and shapeless.
I do not think that I will be able even to keep my blog (or diary); too much of structure!

That lazy?

The negation of time is obvious = I am writing the PS page without finishing "Intro" Page. Fedorov, again, no time after the resurrection!

Next: A Diary

The Web is my excuse for not writing. For not publishing. For not working... Webmaster is the biggest enemy of writers... Writers must be writers. The two cannot be the same person. Like me. One or another. Period.

Anatoly, are you getting in with your Russian? What is the bg image ".RU"? Stay with English! Stick to something! I wish I could finish the PS page at least -- and pretend that all other pages before it are also written!

Не думаю, что русские текcты будут смущать моих читателей -- они не читают, а просматривают (проглядывают, как и я сам). Тем более, "писательские" страницы, кто их читает? Им нужна "информация", а я им только мешаю со своими разговорами... Да, да, по-русски -- а иначе зачем бы я поставил "RU" as a background? Даже не заметил, когда это сделал.

2.19.06. Antohins я пишу, чтобы с русским языком не прощаться. Правда, поставил "российские" счетчики = русских читателей захотел?

Слушаю радио по-русски, Свобода и Эхо Москвы. "Антохиных" буду писать, пока не умру. Не пишу, записываю.
